Porter Square - Cambridge

While it may be hard to believe today, Porter Square was once known for its importance in the development of transporting cattle throughout the Northeast. In fact, the "porterhouse" cut of beef was first served at the now demolished Porter Hotel. The square is conveniently located one stop away when using MBTA public transportiaton from our Harvard Square hotel on the Red Line from Harvard Square. Those looking to walk or drive can reach Porter Square in approximately one mile.

Porter Square has now transformed into a popular commercial and dining district, frequented by local residents and "in the know" visitors. In fact, the area has become known as "Japantown-Cambridge" or "Little Japan" with the abundance of popular Japanese restaurants and independent shops. Even so, within a few blocks visitors can sample cuisine from El Salvador, India, Cambodia or Thai and listen to live music nearly every night of the week throughout the year.
